Seven hundred fifty milliliters. That’s about two and a half cups. In a kitchen, that translates to a family size portion of mac and cheese, a small lasagna, or enough roasted potatoes for four people as a side. This tray measures 7.28 by 5.31 inches and goes 50mm deep – deep enough to hold a decent layer of sauce without sloshing over the edge.

A caterer we know uses these for their “hot hold” station at weddings. They fill them with scalloped potatoes, buttered corn, and baked beans, then line them up in a warming cabinet. The trays sit there for an hour or more, and the aluminum conducts heat evenly so nothing burns at the edges. When the event’s over, they don’t wash anything – just recycle the trays and go home.

The rim folds by hand. You don’t need heat or glue. Put a cardboard lid on top, pinch the edge, and roll it over. It’s not for soup – thin broth will find its way out – but for creamy pastas, chunky stews, or rice dishes, it seals fine. One ghost kitchen owner told us he switched to this size because his drivers kept complaining about plastic clamshells popping open during bumpy rides. The folded rim stays shut.

From a production standpoint, making a 750ml tray at this depth requires a specific grade of aluminum. We use 8011 alloy, which is common for food containers. It has enough stretch to form the corners without tearing, and the rim holds its shape after folding. The press runs at about 70 pieces per minute. After punching, the trays are automatically stacked and counted – 1000 pieces go into a carton measuring 36x28x24cm. That carton fits neatly on a standard grocery pallet.

Why would a restaurant choose this over a plastic container? One reason: heat resistance. Plastic trays can warp or leach chemicals when you reheat them. This tray goes straight from the fridge into a convection oven at 200°C. Another reason: branding. A silver aluminum tray with a custom printed lid looks more premium than a black plastic box. It tells the customer “this food was made fresh, not factory assembled.”

We hold BRC certification, which matters if you’re supplying to European retailers or large hotel chains. FDA and LFGB too. Custom lid printing is available for orders above 50,000 pieces. For smaller runs, plain white cardboard lids work fine – you can slap a sticker on them.

This 750ml size is also popular for frozen meal prep. A healthy meal delivery service we work with packs their “family chicken alfredo” in these. Customers get the tray, bake it straight from frozen at 180°C for 25 minutes, and eat right out of the container. No extra dishes. No plastic waste.

So that’s the tray. Deep enough for a family portion. Foldable rim that stays shut. Aluminum that recycles in the normal bin. If you’re running a catering kitchen, a ghost kitchen, or a meal prep business, this size might just be the workhorse you didn’t know you needed.
