A 580ml tray with a 35mm depth doesn’t look special. But that specific dimension — 184 by 128 millimeters — exists because a Swiss frozen food company asked for it. They needed a tray that fit exactly into their existing cardboard sleeve, not the other way around. We pulled out our mould library, found nothing that matched, and cut a new die. Sixty days later, they had their tray.

That’s how custom tooling works at Qiangli. We keep over 300 moulds on site for standard sizes, but when a client needs something different — a corner radius changed, a flange widened, a depth adjusted by 2 millimeters — we build a new one. The lead time is around 60 days from design to first sample. The cost is amortized over your order volume. For the Swiss client, that custom tray now runs at 500,000 pieces per year, and the mould paid for itself in the first two runs.

Why does this matter for a 580ml gold rectangle? Because most buyers don’t need custom. They need a reliable, in stock size that works for their existing packaging line. That’s what this tray is: a standard item we run every week. But the fact that we can customize means we understand the tooling inside out. We know how to adjust wall thickness to prevent thin spots at the corners. We know which alloy temper (8011 H22 vs H24) gives the right stiffness for a 35mm deep draw. That knowledge goes into every tray, even the stock ones.

On the production side, this 580ml size runs on our high speed press lines. Each line cycles at 60–80 strokes per minute, depending on the depth. The aluminum coil feeds in, the die stamps the shape, and the finished trays stack automatically. Our daily output across six lines is 720,000 containers. That volume allows us to hold BRC certification, which is not a sticker — it’s an audit of our entire food safety system. European supermarket chains require BRC for their private label suppliers. If you’re selling to a retailer in the UK or Germany, our certification saves you from having to qualify a second factory.

The 35mm depth is shallow, which means this tray is best for semi liquids: a coconut curry, a chana masala, or a rice bowl with sauce. It’s not for broth-heavy soups. But for dishes that need a heat seal to prevent leakage during delivery, it works. The foil lid bonds to the flange using a resin coating. No hand folding. Just a machine and a clean seal.
