Square trays don’t get enough love. Round ones are fine for soup, but when you need to pack a lot of food into a box that stacks neatly, square wins every time. This one is 9.06 by 9.06 inches – a true square – and 47mm deep. That gives you 1650ml, which is about 55 ounces. Lay down a layer of enchiladas, then rice, then beans, then cheese. It all fits without corners going empty.
A catering company in Texas uses these for their “fajita kit.” They put grilled chicken, peppers, onions, and tortillas in the tray, fold the rim over a cardboard lid, and send it out. The customer heats the whole thing in the oven at 180°C for 15 minutes. The square shape means every edge gets heat evenly – no cold spots in the corners.
The rim folds by hand. You don’t need a machine. Just pinch the edge over the cardboard lid. Not for thin soup – the seal isn't watertight – but for fajitas, baked ziti, rice bowls, or anything with sauce that isn’t broth, it works. One meal prep kitchen told us they switched to this square tray because their round containers wasted space in the fridge. With squares, they fit 20% more trays per shelf.
Packing is 500 pieces per carton. Carton size is 47.5 x 37.5 x 47.5cm – a cube, which is easy to stack in a warehouse. Available lid is cardboard only for this model. That’s fine; cardboard is cheaper and recyclable. If you need a plastic lid, they have other models, but this one is designed for dry or semi wet foods where a paper lid is enough.
Why would a restaurant pick a 1650ml square tray? Because it’s the perfect size for a small catering order. Think a family of four that wants a full dinner without leftovers. Or a party tray for a game night – nachos, wings, veggie sticks, all in one square. The 47mm depth is not too deep, not too shallow. It holds a good portion without making the food look lost.
From a storage perspective, these trays nest tightly. That’s why only 500 fit in a carton – they’re big, but they stack inside each other efficiently. Less empty space means lower shipping costs per piece compared to bulkier packaging.
One more thing: square trays are easier to label. A rectangular sticker fits perfectly on the lid. Round containers always have weird overhang. This one, you slap a 4x4 inch label on top, and it covers the whole lid. Clean, professional, no peeling edges.
So if you’re doing family meal kits, catering sides, or just want a tray that doesn’t waste space, this 9.06 inch square is worth a look. Fold the rim, add the cardboard lid, and send it out.
